故事以Lena为中心，她今年38岁，住在波兰。一天晚上，她在高速公路上开车去罗兹时，目睹了一起事故。她看到一个被困在车里的女人是如何被烧死的。从那时起，受害者尼娜的尖叫声困扰着莉娜，她开始越来越失眠。莉娜试图找出那个女人是谁。这项任务将主角带入潜意识的身体和情感之旅。高速公路上的夜晚变成了噩梦，莉娜必须找到一条出路。

　　As bacteriologist Lena (38) drives past a burning car, she hears a scream of a dying woman. Lena does not tell her boyfriend how much the incident distresses her, just as she does not talk about the stillbirth she recently had. Instead, she throws herself into her work, intrudes into the life of the deceased, begins an affair with the widower and gradually takes on the role of mother to their son. Her persistent insomnia causes her to lose control between dreams and reality. Finally she accepts the help of a whisperer and then finds her own way to cope with her loss.

　　维克多自幼和奶奶生活在希腊的海边小镇，奶奶去世后，他决定开车去往德国，开始一段公路旅行。在前往意大利的船上，维克多偶遇英俊、自由、奔放的德国男人马蒂亚斯，二人相互吸引，越走越近。在驱车北上的过程中，马蒂亚斯逼迫维克多走出舒适区，二人因此发生激烈的冲突。当旅行临近结束，他们各自的问题是否能找到答案？
